RMIT University has officially become the 14th university in Australia to join the FISU Healthy Campus Program, an international platform designed to improve the health and wellbeing of students and staff across campus communities.
As a new signatory to the FISU Healthy Campus Program, RMIT strengthens a growing national and global movement dedicated to promoting physical activity, mental and social wellbeing, sustainable practices, and healthier campus environments.
The FISU Healthy Campus Program, supported locally by UniSport Australia, provides universities with a structured, evidence-based framework across seven key priority areas: Physical Activity and Sport, Nutrition, Disease Prevention, Mental and Social Health, Risk Behaviours, Environment, Sustainability and Social Responsibility, and Academic and Health Management.
For RMIT, the decision to join the platform builds on its long-standing commitment to student wellbeing and vibrant campus life.
“RMIT University is excited to be a new signatory and was drawn to the program as a way to bring greater coordination and focus to the many health-promoting activities already happening across our campuses,” said Steven Harrison, Manager, Sport & Fitness, RMIT Active, RMIT Student Life.
“The structured framework provides a clear pathway to strengthen and better align our efforts.”
By adopting the Healthy Campus model, RMIT aims to build deeper connections among its community and enhance everyday experiences on campus.
“We anticipate that students and staff will enjoy more meaningful benefits and an enhanced campus experience, whether through active programs, improved access to services, or simply feeling more connected to university life,” said Harrison.
“While accreditation is a valuable milestone, our real measure of success is creating a campus where people want to stay longer because it feels good to be here.”
The program also opens up new opportunities for collaboration with other Australian and international universities.
“The program promotes cooperation between participating universities, creating a strong support network,” Harrison added.
“We look forward to sharing RMIT’s experiences and learning from others as part of this growing international network.”
With RMIT joining the national cohort, the Healthy Campus movement in Australia continues to grow momentum, bringing universities together to champion better wellbeing outcomes and build campus environments that help students and staff thrive.
The roll out of this program will include Vietnam campuses in Ho Chi Minh City and Saigon which is really exciting for RMIT’s global footprint.
