Research: Barriers to physical activity

Starting university presents significant challenges to students’ physical activity, diet, sleep, and mental well-being due to stress, academic demands, and lack of prioritisation of health behaviours. Key barriers include university timetabling, the cost and availability of healthy foods, and difficulties in falling asleep. This research highlights the potential for health behaviour change interventions to support students’ mental well-being by addressing these barriers and promoting healthier lifestyles.
