University of Wollongong Signs On As Newest FISU Healthy Campus Signatory

UniSport Australia is excited to announce that the University of Wollongong (UOW) has joined the global FISU Healthy Campus program, reflecting their commitment to embedding wellbeing and active living into the university experience.

Central to UOW’s approach to student health and wellbeing is UOW Pulse, the university’s not-for-profit campus-services arm that delivers a wide range of programs and initiatives designed to support physical, mental, and social wellbeing. From fitness classes, sporting events, and recreational activities to volunteering opportunities, student-led events, and wellness workshops, UOW Pulse provides students with accessible ways to stay active, connected, and engaged on campus. By integrating these initiatives into everyday campus life, UOW Pulse exemplifies the university’s commitment to the FISU Healthy Campus vision, helping create an environment where students can thrive both physically and mentally.

UOW Pulse COO, Tony Wrightson, who played a key role in the University of Wollongong joining FISU Healthy Campus, spoke about what motivated UOW to sign on, highlighting how the university’s location and facilities foster a culture of health and wellbeing. With a beautiful green campus on the foothills of the Illawarra Escarpment, outstanding sport, fitness, and aquatic facilities, a thriving medical centre, and a range of programs supporting physical and mental health, UOW is well placed to embed wellbeing across campus life.

“The FISU Healthy Campus accreditation feels like a natural fit for UOW and will ensure supporting the health and wellbeing of the campus community remains a top priority. Having structure with respect to the criteria and metrics we need to achieve and maintain will help us raise the bar even further and maximise awareness around healthy living for all” Mr Wrightson said, adding that he is excited about the University of Wollongong’s signing and is looking forward to the journey.

UniSport Australia’s CEO Mark Sinderberry welcomed the announcement, saying “The University of Wollongong’s signing builds on their strong background of fostering healthier university communities and will make a valuable contribution to the global network.”

The University of Wollongong’s participation in Healthy Campus reflects their dedication to advancing best-practice approaches to student health and wellness, becoming part of a global network of institutions focused on promoting student wellbeing, sharing expertise, showcasing innovative programs, and enhancing the overall student experience on campus.
