UniSport Australia’s Martin Doulton Appointed To Chair FISU’s Global Development Committee

UniSport Australia’s (UniSport) General Manager for Advocacy and FISU (International University Sports Federation) Executive Committee Member, Martin Doulton, has stepped into a key international leadership role after being appointed Chair of the Development Committee of FISU.

This move highlights a major step forward for Australia’s presence in global university sport, as local leadership continues to play an increasingly influential role in shaping international development priorities. The appointment places Mr Doulton at the centre of efforts to strengthen and expand university sport programs worldwide. In this role, he will help guide initiatives that support emerging nations, enhance participation opportunities, and build stronger connections across the global university sport network.

His appointment follows the resignation of Stefan Bergh, who will be stepping into a new role as Secretary General of the International Table Tennis Federation. Mr Doulton was endorsed by colleagues whilst attending a meeting in Changchun, China, and upon his selection, thanked the UniSport Board and CEO Mark Sinderberry for their support, as well as FISU President Leonz Eder for his trust.

Alongside his colleague Nomsa Mahlangu, appointed Vice Chair, Mr Doulton spoke about how excited he is to join FISU’s leadership team at this pivotal moment for global university sport, working closely with colleagues and partners worldwide.

The Development Committee plays a critical role in identifying opportunities for growth, particularly in areas where university sport systems are still evolving. Through collaboration with national federations and key stakeholders, the committee works to deliver programs that promote inclusion, capacity building, and long-term sustainability.

Reflecting on this collaborative approach, Mr Doulton emphasised the importance of continuity and teamwork in driving future progress. “With our collective FISU experiences and diverse backgrounds, I’m confident we can make meaningful contributions to building on the progress already achieved, supporting the transition to the proposed Continental Cooperation Committee and helping to maximise the benefits of the shared responsibility framework outlined in the FISU Global Strategy 2031,” he said.

Backed by a strong leadership team and guided by FISU’s strategic vision, Mr Doulton will work to expand opportunities, foster collaboration, and strengthen university sport programs across nations. This milestone not only highlights Australia’s growing influence in global university sport but also signals an exciting new chapter for initiatives that connect students, universities, and communities around the world.
