The University of New England Awarded Gold Level Accreditation In The FISU Healthy Campus Program

In November 2025, The University of New England (UNE) was awarded Gold Level Accreditation in the FISU Healthy Campus program. This achievement makes them the first university in regional Australia to attain this global standard, and just one of three universities in the country.

Achieving the Gold accreditation in the FISU Healthy Campus program reflects UNE’s commitment to fostering health, wellbeing and sustainability into its campus community, and is a result of the university’s ongoing efforts from high-level strategic planning to the daily contributions of students and staff who actively support and participate in wellbeing initiatives.

Backed by a range of university-wide programs and services including UNE Life, UNE has implemented initiatives that promote social connection, support mental wellbeing, and advance sustainability across campus.

Upon receiving the accreditation, Caitlin Bryce, UNE Sport Programs & Partnerships Coordinator, said “The Gold certification reflects a fantastic team effort across UNE and UNE Life, and we’re already working together towards Platinum.” She also added that UNE aims to continue sharing the Healthy Campus message, connecting with more staff, students, and departments, and embedding it into the university’s culture.

As a FISU Healthy Campus signatory, UNE is helping lead the way in Australia, fostering positive change across campus life and demonstrating a strong commitment to the health, wellbeing, and connectedness of its community.

The FISU Healthy Campus Program, developed in 2020 and endorsed by UNESCO and ISO, is a global certification initiative promoting health, wellbeing, and sustainability, helping universities embed supportive programs into all aspects of student and staff life while encouraging collaboration across campus communities. UniSport Australia partners with FISU to support its members in delivering Healthy Campus initiatives, providing tools, guidance, networks, and evidence-based resources that foster physical activity, mental health, nutrition, and a culture of wellbeing. With 17 Australian universities currently signed on, the program demonstrates global leadership and offers recognition for institutions advancing healthier, more sustainable, and connected campus communities.
