Research: Smart Campaigns, Healthier Students

Obesity remains a major global health issue, making it critical to support healthy habits in young adults. A 2024 review found that social marketing, especially through social media, effectively improved student eating habits and, in some cases, physical activity. The most successful campaigns used behaviour change strategies like audience targeting, student co-design, and clear goals. However, many missed key steps that would boost impact. For Australian universities, this is a clear opportunity: well-designed, student-led campaigns can drive lasting behaviour change while also supporting engagement, wellbeing, and academic success.
