CQUniversity Joins Global Movement as newest FISU Healthy Campus Signatory

UniSport Australia is excited to announce CQUniversity (CQU) as the newest Australian university to join the global FISU Healthy Campus program, reinforcing its commitment to creating healthier, more active campus communities.

CQUniversity’s decision to sign on comes on the heels of the launch of its forward-thinking Movement Changes Lives: CQUniversity SPORT Strategy 2025–2028. As the only dual-sector university in Queensland with a strong footprint in regional areas, CQU is uniquely placed to promote health and wellbeing through sport, education, and research.

“The Healthy Campus program offers an opportunity to systematically showcase our commitment to the improvement of the health and wellbeing of our campus communities, especially through our SPORT expertise and excellence,” said Professor Fabio Serpiello, Director of Sport Strategy at CQUniversity.

With strengths spanning sport and exercise, physical activity, occupational and rehabilitation therapies, the university has embraced the SPORT acronym as a unifying framework for its multidisciplinary approach.

“Healthy Campus participation will provide new, cross-university opportunities for CQU teams to collaborate for health and wellbeing across our national footprint,” added Professor Serpiello. “Our membership will also increase focus and evidence-based opportunities to meet SPORT strategy initiatives aimed at advocating for a healthy and active campus, and study and work environment and culture.”

UniSport Australia CEO Mark Sinderberry welcomed the announcement, saying, “CQUniversity’s commitment to the FISU Healthy Campus program reflects a growing national momentum toward creating healthier, more connected university communities. Their leadership in regional engagement and applied sport research adds incredible value to the Healthy Campus network, and we’re thrilled to see them join this important movement.”

Joining the FISU Healthy Campus network not only places CQU among leading institutions globally but also strengthens Australia’s reputation as a nation committed to university sport, health, and wellbeing.

Welcome to the Healthy Campus community, CQUniversity!
